Artist Statement

I am a formally qualified photographer trained at the School of Art Design and Media, at Central TAFE.

As an emerging photographer I began my career several years ago after a successful 20 year career in the tennis coaching industry. Teaching tennis gave me a good base for teaching photography, an area I am extremely passionate about.

I am also very passionate about photographing contemporary portraits & landscapes  commercially and for my own personal photography projects, much of which ends up as an exhibition.

I have been selected for several group exhibitions, conducted 4 solo exhibitions and have been recognised through several awards from well respected photography organisations such as Perth Centre for Photography, Queensland Centre for Photography and the Australian Institute of Professional Photography.

I work with both film and digital medium, analogue photography gives me great pleasure and also a point of difference in the highly saturated digital photography era. My present body of work has been conducted 100% on film using an old canon eos50 and a medium format camera Contax 645. The project explores suburban vintage spaces, or what is left of them, ie old cars, corner delis etc, the types of spaces that are rapidly being replaced by modern development.

Over the next 12 months I will undertake my largest and most involved project to date, ‘The Stirlings – Above and Beyond’. The project will be part funded by Country Arts WA, and will involve a 12 month mentorship with highly credentialed photographer Tony Hewitt (recently awarded 2013 AIPP Australian Photographer of the Year), accompanied with a photography project focusing on the Stirling Range National Park.
